Belén Uranga, member of the Sociolinguistics Cluster, wrote this interesting article in Baleike magazine after participating in Ecuador in the First International Course on Kichwa Revitalization Strategies. This is how her writing began:
"The 7,700 million inhabitants of the world population speak around 7,100 languages (Ethnologue, 2019); in an imaginary distribution, about a million speakers in each language! But one of the most surprising characteristics of linguistic diversity in the world is that 95% of the total world population speaks in 5% of languages "
